SAFEGUARDING

Middle Rasen Methodist Church

Mill Lane,
Middle Rasen,
Market Rasen,
Lincolnshire,
LN8 3LE.

Minister: Rev. Heather Wilson

About Middle Rasen

The Chapel is in a prominent position on the A46 Gainsborough Road in Middle Rasen.

Along with the Parish Church, Primary School, Village Hall and Sports Clubs, the Methodist Church plays a key role in village life for many residents. The friendly welcome experienced by newcomers and visitors to the weekday activities and Sunday services attract regular attendance from people living in nearby villages. We also work ecumenically with our Anglican friends at a relatively isolated former RAF base four miles from Middle Rasen.

Worship

In addition to the weekly 10:45AM Sunday Morning services, there is a 6:00PM Evening service. Because this is one of the few evening services in the area, members of other churches (and denominations) frequently worship with us.

We continually improve our facilities, recently removing some of the front pews and replacing them with comfortable chairs which give greater flexibility for worship and other activities. You also have the option of using a hymnbook or reading from the multimedia images projected onto a screen.

This Month's Services

Online Worship

We will also be preparing home worship resources for each Sunday... Please download this week's HERE. This resource is available alongside the Circuit Zoom Service, a live video-conferencing service that will be taking place each Sunday at 4:00 PM if you wish to join us. If you need help regarding downloading Zoom, connecting to the service via your computer or telephone then please contact one of the circuit ministers.

If video calling is not your thing then please find an alternative home worship sheet for this week available HERE.

At this time it is beneficial to check out the ways in which you can CONNECT with your Lord and with others at this difficult time... In addition please have a read of A Methodist Way of Life and consider the things you can do ...

Notices

  • Prayers for COP26 - the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties

The UK will host the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow on 31st October – 12th November 2021. Leading up to that event Deacon Cedric May is writing a series of prayers, one for each day of the month throughout October. The theme is "Prayers for the Planet and COP26".

Each week's prayers will be found as a part of our Pause for Thought Area. Please take a look if you wish.

  • District Vision Day

The District Vision Day in support of young people will be held on Sat 13th November 2021 @ St. Giles Methodist Church, Lincoln between 9:30AM and 4:00PM. It is an exciting and comprehensive programme and we hope that every church can be represented – even if children and young people are not present in the congregation much can still be done.

If you wish to attend then please book before Sat 30th October 2021 with Deacon Jane Paine, the District Youth Enabler, @ ☏ 01507 525195 or ✉ This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

  • Help for Afghan Crisis and Refugees

We have been asked to look at what we might do to support Afghan Refugees arriving in this country. Rev. Louise has spoken to West Lindsey District Council who have as yet made no plans to receive any refugees. However the Government’s warm welcome programme which was announced on 18th August 2021 has not been opened nor have details been given to local councils. West Lindsey will hold a meeting after these are announced to decide on their pledge. They did not take any Syrian Refugees on a similar programme (data from an internet document of all Lincolnshire Councils).

If you have a strong opinion on this I would suggest writing to the Leader of the council, Cllr. Owen Bierley whose contact details can be found HERE.

  • Increase in Scams

There seem to be a number of scams using Christian terms at the moment. Please be very careful. Never reply to such a text or email. Rather contact the person by a different means to check. Your Ministers will not ask you to purchase gift cards on their behalf by email or text. Please let us know if you receive such an email or text so we can pass the information on to Action Fraud and the Police.

  • Mothers in Israel

On Tuesday mornings at 10:00AM Rev. Louise Carr will be running a study group looking at Mothers in Israel, a recent book which explores the influential women in early Methodism. Anyone is welcome to join us, just ask Rev. Louise for the Zoom code. The author is going to give us a talk on Zoom one Thursday afternoon.

Social and Community Life

Middle Rasen encourages Bible Study - our group runs on a Tuesday afternoon at 2:00PM and is run by Rev. Heather Wilson. Some of our members also attend an Ecumenical Bible Teaching Group which is held Fortnightly at the home of Rev. David Post in Middle Rasen.

Our Seasonal Social groups consist of the Middle Rasen Guild which meet on a regular basis throughout the year (every Wednesday at 7:30PM - from October to April) and the Women’s Own group running every Wednesday at 2:30PM (between September and June).

We seek to work in various ways in our local community. We achieve this through arranging Advice and Information Days attended by various public services, and holding the following events regularly:

  • “Coffee, Cake and Chat” events - (1st and 3rd Thursday of each month at 10:00AM)
  • Coffee Mornings - (usually on the 2nd Saturday of the month).

We seek to proclaim the Good News of Christ Jesus in ways that are relevant to today’s society, without causing the traditionalists too much discomfort! If you would like to be involved with us then please come to one of our Sunday Services, or just drop into one of our midweek events. Look out for the Advertising Banner on the railings or check the Notice Board.

The Diary Dates Word file for this month can be downloaded HERE.

(Apologies that it is not up-to-date... We will start adding the file again once we are able to return to the Chapel for Worship and Social Events).
